Creating a Journal Template
also on page 1-17

  1. Click the start button and go to All Programs. Locate Microsoft Word and click on the icon.
  2. Type a title, either Electronic Journal or Daily Journal.
  3. Highlight the text by dragging your cursor across the text.
  4. Using the formatting tools on the toolbar, select size 16, bold and centered.
  5. Click on the Insert menu and select Text box. If a large box appears, click on the border of the box. You now have a small text box that you can move to the desired location on the page (next to the title).
  6. Click inside the text box. Insert a Clip Art picture by clicking on the Insert menu, select Picture, then select Clip Art.
  7. On the right hand side of the screen, enter a keyword into the search box, such as, school, family, sports, technology, etc. to find clip art of interest to you and click the search button.
  8. Select a picture of your choice by clicking on the picture. It will be inserted into the text box and automatically resized to fit the box. Placing your picture in a text box allows you to relocate the picture to any location on the page. You can move the picture by clicking on the border of the text box and dragging it to any place on the page.
  9. To remove the border of text box, double-click on the border of the text box. The Format Text Box window appears. Click on the Colors and Lines tab. Under line color, click the down arrow and select No Line. Click OK.
  10. Click under the title and press the Enter key three or four times.
  11. Using the formatting tools on the toolbar, select size 12, remove bold and click on the left alignment tool.
  12. Type Name: Your Name; Press Enter one time.
  13. Type Date: (Go to the Insert menu and select Date & Time; choose a format of your choice and check the box that says Update automatically. Each time the template is opened, the date will automatically be inserted).
  14. Go to the File menu and select Save As. In Save as type field click the down arrow and select Document Template. Follow your instructor’s directions as to the location to save your template.
  15. Close Word completely down.
  16. Open the template. Notice the file name, Document 1. Click at the end of the date and press Enter twice. Type the journal question for Day 1: What brought you here? What are your expectations for InTech? Answer the questions.
  17. Save as Journal Day 1 and to the location as directed by your instructor.
  18. Days 2-7: Open the journal template. Type the day’s question with a response and save as Journal Day (number) according to the instructions given on Day 1.
