Developing an Electronic Portfolio
M. Leigh Funk
KSU Educational Technology Training Center

Introduction As current and future educators know, technology is changing teaching and learning in significant ways.  These days we have a number of reform efforts aimed at measuring student learning and “holding teachers accountable”.  Unfortunately, many of these efforts focus on measuring student achievement through standardized formats rather than in authentic or performance based documentation of growth over time.  Portfolio assessment has enabled us to document such growth through real-world evidence and examples of student work.  For educators, the portfolio is becoming an essential part of the annual review process, but more importantly, developing a teaching portfolio can ignite continued teacher reflection and on-going assessment within the classroom.
