Overview of Portfolio Assessment

What is Authentic Assessment?

What is a Portfolio?

Typically, a portfolio is defined as an organized collection of work samples that provide a contextual representation of learning, competencies, accomplishments, and growth of the preparer.  However, the portfolio is not a scrapbook of miscellaneous keepsakes, but rather a purposeful and meaningful collection of work that serves as evidence that particular standards have been met or as documentation of identified skills.  Reflection on the learning process or skill development is an important part of documenting ones professional growth over time.

What is an E-Portfolio (E-Folio)?

The E-folio a portfolio as previously defined that is published in a digital format via computer, online, or through multimedia storage devices such as CD-Rom.  Although the E-Folio is somewhat new, it is gaining popularity among Georgia educators because it also allows the preparer to demonstrate their technology proficiency and emerging technology competencies.  Furthermore, many school administrators are requesting teacher candidates to provide a teaching portfolio electronically so it can be reviewed prior to an interview for employment or annual review conference.
