Technology to Support Qualitative and Quantitative Research

Technology Reviews

         Reviews and evaluations of technologies that support the research process including GALILEO (Georgia Library Learning Online), EbscoHOST,  ProQuest, Jmp-In and Microsoft Excel.  Structured interviews with education faculty who use each of these modern technologies for research determine the strengths and weaknesses of application features from the end user perspective.

Electronic Resource Tools

Electronic databases such as GALILEO, EbscoHost, ProQuest are particularly useful in the problem identification and literature review phases of qualitative and quantitative research as detailed in Electronic Databases that Support the Research Process.  This web site offers reviews of selected electronic databases that support the research process along with direct access to online resources from the database publishers. Qualitative Research Tools

There are a number of applications available for analyzing qualitative data.  NVivo and N6 are the most commonly used among educators and are reviewed here.

Quantitative Research Tools

Most educators who engage in quantitative data analysis are familiar with applications such as JMP and JMP-In the student version, Microsoft Excel and SASS.  Of these programs, JMP-In and Excel tend to be the most frequently used and are reviewed here.  You may submit an evaluation of these tools by visiting the JMP-In Feature Feedback Form.

Cool Research Tools

The Internet offers many cool tools that are free and easy to use to manage Internet resources, exchange files, and facilitate communication.  Within the last year, educators have discovered Backflip.com and Formsite.com which are reviewed here.  You may submit an evaluation of these tools by visiting the Productivity Tool Evaluation Form.
